Introduction:
John’s racing career started November 2003 when he purchased a Factory Five Challenge Series kit car taking 1 1/2 years to complete FFR #48. Now that he had a race car, he needed to learn how to race, in July 2005 attending SkipBarber Racing School at Limerock, CT and obtained a provisional SCCA license. With that in hand he was able to apply for a NASA racing license and did his first race at VIR (at the time the FFR Nationals 2005; finished 10th.) The first full season of racing started in 2006 going to tracks like MidOhio, WatkinsGlen, BeaveRun, Summit Point, and Limerock. The first NASA Nationals held at MidOhio saw him finish in 6th. 2007 saw him at the same tracks as in 2006 with the addition of Pocono. Participation in the 2007 NASA Nationals saw him finishing in 5th. 2008 season kicked off with two 3hr endurance races at VIR and Road Atlanta then to Sebring to driving Ed Boothman's FFR #85. After the Florida trip it was off to Pocono, MidOhio, and a 3rd place finish the NASA Nationals 2008. He also had the privilege of being part of Team Racing 4 A Reason 2 running Ed Boothman's FFR #85 in the NASA's 25hr 2008 where they finished 11th in the E0 class. 2009 started and ended with engine troubles in two different cars. Road Atlanta saw him sidelined for the Enduro and Saturday's race while Andy Cole and Bob Kay slaved over his engine getting head swap done at the track and was able to compete in Sunday's race. Summit Point followed, then back to Sebring in FFR#85 now in ES trim, MidOhio, Limerock, and 2009 NASA Nationals held at Miller Motorsports Park where once again he finished 3rd. A couple of test/tunes at Thunderhill with FFR#85 to get ready for NASA 25hr 2009 where the team blew up an engine in qualifying and only competed for 3hrs with a loaner engine having problems.
Current Season:
2010 sees John participating in the FFR East Coast Series in FFR#48 at Road Atlanta, Summit Point, BeaveRun, VIR (10th year anniversary of the FFR Challenge Series), MidOhio, WatkinsGlen and NewJersey Motorsports Park. He will also compete at the 2010 NASA Nationals held again at Miller Motorsports Park. Further development work in Ed Boothman’s FFR#85 continues with focus on engine reliability and will be campaigned in the 2010 NASA 25hr race.
Racing Goals:
John’s racing aspirations include winning the Factory Five Challenge East Coast Series, NASA Nationals, NASA 25hr, and eventually competing in pro racing series Grand-Am/Continental Tire Series/ALMS.
Personal:
John’s other hobbies include hiking, mountain biking, skiing and of course maintaining the street car/race car/truck and trailer. He lives in Nashua, New Hampshire and works as a Systems Engineer at Tufts Health Plan located in Massachusetts taking care of the company’s Windows/Linux Server infrastructure.
Special Thanks:
John wants to thank his family for putting up with his racecar hobby, and to Factory Five Racing’s Dave Smith and Jim Schenck for making the FFR Challenge Series car.
