Louisville, KY (June 20, 2009)  Alli Owens added to her growing collection of achievements in this week’s Click It or Ticket Buckle-Up 150 at Kentucky Speedway.  Owens drove the ElectrifyingCareers.com Toyota to a 13th-place finish, which marked her second-career top-15 at Kentucky Speedway and her fourth top-15 in 2009 ARCA RE/MAX Series competition.

On her qualifying lap, Owens rounded the 1.5-mile Kentucky Speedway in 31.159 seconds. Her lap time placed the No. 19 D’Hondt Motorsports entry on the outside of row 9 for the start of the race.

When the Click It or Ticket Buckle-Up 150 got underway, Owens advanced towards the front of the pack with little difficulty.  The ElectrifyingCareers.com Toyota picked up three positions on the first lap and cracked the top-10 on lap 7. Owens relayed that her “car is awesome, but tight on exit of the turns.” She settled in 11th-place while waiting for a caution period that would allow her crew to make adjustments to her car.  Her opportunity came on lap 24, when the yellow flag waved for a spin on the track.  The ElectrifyingCareers.com team serviced Owens’ Toyota with four fresh tires, fuel, along with air pressure and wedge adjustments, to loosen up the No. 19 machine.

The race resumed on lap 30 with Owens in 13th-place.    Owens was still in the 13th position on lap 39 when the yellow flag slowed the action once again. Crew chief Jerry Pitts elected for Owens to stay on the track and not pit during this caution period.  Several cars entered pit road for service, which moved Owens into sixth-place.

The race restarted on lap 47.  Owens’ vehicle had become “loose on exit” in the initial stages of the run.  Owens lost four positions while battling the handling of her race car.  She was holding down 12th-place when the caution flag halted the action on lap 61.  Pitts decided to use the caution period as an opportunity for the team to make its last pit stop of the race.  The crew changed her tires and added enough fuel to go the distance.   Owens radioed that her car was “much better at the end of the run and handling well,” so no chassis adjustments were performed. The majority of teams did not make pit stops, which placed Owens 19th on the grid for the restart.

The green flag waved on lap 77 with 23 laps remaining.  Owens used her fresh tires to track down the six cars in front of her and take the checkers in 13th-place.

“The ElectrifyingCareers.com car started out being a little bit tight, but became too loose in the mid-stages of the race,” commented Owens after the race.  “When I was driving through the middle of the turns, the back-end would start sliding.  I’d have to step off the gas for just a split second.

“It looked like our strategy was going to pay off for the final green flag run.  We had fresh tires and most of the cars on the track were on old ones. Our car was handling it’s best.  Everything was coming together. Unfortunately the field got too spread out and I only had time to pick up six spots. There just weren’t enough laps to catch anyone else.

“I’m really excited about our next race.  We’re going back to Pocono.  We scored a top-10 in our last race there and I know we can do even better this time.”
