Mishael Abbott Completes Successful Indy Racing League Rookie Test

Coral Springs, FL– Professional auto racer, Mishael Abbott of Coral Springs, FL takes the next step in her bid to compete in the Indy Racing League (IRL) by successfully completing the Indy Racing League rookie test and securing her Menards Infiniti Pro Series ä license.

The Homestead-Miami Speedway’s 1.5-mile, high-banked oval was the setting for Abbott’s official test with Hemelgarn Johnson Motorsports, Friday, January 21. The weekend at Homestead is the “Spring Training” for IRL IndyCarÒ Series teams to prepare for the 2005 season. Mishael completed 140 laps at structured speeds, observed by IRL officials, to obtain the rookie license. Mishael ran within 0.2 seconds of the veterans on the track with her best lap of 28.97 seconds at an average speed of 186.4 mph.

“Getting my rookie license is the next step in my pursuit to become the first woman to win the Indianapolis 500. Securing sponsorship is an absolute must now to reach my ultimate goal”, an excited Abbott exclaimed. Next on Mishael’s racing schedule is the opening round of the Indy Racing League Menards Infiniti Pro Series at Homestead-Miami Speedway March 6.

Menards Infiniti Pro Series (MIPS) is the official support series for the IRL IndyCars and incubator for the racing stars of tomorrow. MIPS races run on same tracks and the same weekends as IRL IndyCar Series events. Menards IPS attracts some of the world’s most talented young drivers, looking for a powerful stepping-stone to the IndyCar Series – the pinnacle of open-wheel, oval-track racing in America.

A racing version of the Infiniti Q45 V8 engine is used in the series to power the Dallara built open-cockpit chassis to speeds up to 200 miles per hour. The 3.5-liter 90-degree motors produce an estimated 450 horsepower pushing the cars to nearly 3-G’s on Firestone Firehawk tires.

Mishael Abbott, first woman to test drive a Menards Infiniti Pro Series car with her Las Vegas Motor Speedway run in November 2002 signed with Hemelgarn Johnson Motorsports for the 2005 Menards Infiniti Pro Series season. This is the next step is her pursuit to compete and win the Indianapolis 500.

Mishael is pursuing her formal education at Florida Atlantic University, working toward an elementary school teaching degree, and seeking sponsorship support to compete in the entire season of Indy Racing League Menards Infiniti Pro Series and the American Star Oval Challenge.
