Abbott Completes Successful Indy Racing League Rookie Test

Abbott of Coral Springs, FL takes the next step in her bid
to compete in the Indy Racing League (IRL) by successfully
completing the Indy Racing League rookie test and securing
her Menards Infiniti Pro Series ä license.
The Homestead-Miami Speedways 1.5-mile, high-banked
oval was the setting for Abbotts official test with
Hemelgarn Johnson Motorsports, Friday, January 21. The weekend
at Homestead is the Spring Training for IRL IndyCarÒ
Series teams to prepare for the 2005 season. Mishael completed
140 laps at structured speeds, observed by IRL officials,
to obtain the rookie license. Mishael ran within 0.2 seconds
of the veterans on the track with her best lap of 28.97 seconds
at an average speed of 186.4 mph.
Getting my rookie license is the next step in my pursuit
to become the first woman to win the Indianapolis 500. Securing
sponsorship is an absolute must now to reach my ultimate goal,
an excited Abbott exclaimed. Next on Mishaels racing
schedule is the opening round of the Indy Racing League Menards
Infiniti Pro Series at Homestead-Miami Speedway March 6.
Menards Infiniti Pro Series (MIPS) is the official support
series for the IRL IndyCars and incubator for the racing stars
of tomorrow. MIPS races run on same tracks and the same weekends
as IRL IndyCar Series events. Menards IPS attracts some of
the worlds most talented young drivers, looking for
a powerful stepping-stone to the IndyCar Series the
pinnacle of open-wheel, oval-track racing in America.
A racing version of the Infiniti Q45 V8 engine is used in
the series to power the Dallara built open-cockpit chassis
to speeds up to 200 miles per hour. The 3.5-liter 90-degree
motors produce an estimated 450 horsepower pushing the cars
to nearly 3-Gs on Firestone Firehawk tires.
Mishael Abbott, first woman to test drive a Menards Infiniti
Pro Series car with her Las Vegas Motor Speedway run in November
2002 signed with Hemelgarn Johnson Motorsports for the 2005
Menards Infiniti Pro Series season. This is the next step
is her pursuit to compete and win the Indianapolis 500.
Mishael is pursuing her formal education at Florida Atlantic
University, working toward an elementary school teaching degree,
and seeking sponsorship support to compete in the entire season
of Indy Racing League Menards Infiniti Pro Series and the
American Star Oval Challenge.
