Mishael
Abbott Qualifies Fourth at Virginia International Raceway
Alton, VA Formula Mazda and Menards Infiniti
Pro Seriesä driver, Mishael Abbott of Coral Springs,
FL returned to Virginia International Raceway (VIR) this weekend
to defend her win from last year in the Oak Tree National.
Mishael qualified fourth today around VIRs 17-turn,
3.27-mile road course for Sundays race hosted by the
North Carolina Region Sports Car Club of America (SCCA). Interestingly
Mishael qualified fourth last year before taking over first
place by lap six and holding off numerous passing attempts
to secure her first SCCA National event win.
I qualified with a 1:58.55 today which is a second
faster than my fastest time here, said Mishael Abbott.
Fourth is where I started last year when I won! The
field is very tight with third place being at 1:58.52, so
I am looking forward to a good race tomorrow morning.
Mishael used Fridays practice sessions to break in
a new engine and work on car setup prior to Saturdays
two qualifying sessions. Mishael sprained her ankle helping
change tires at the end of the day after qualifying. She expects
to be able to drive in Sunday's race.
Mishael Abbott is pursuing her formal education at Florida
Atlantic University, working toward an elementary school teaching
degree, and seeking sponsorship support to complete the entire
season of the Indy Racing Leagueâ Menards Infiniti Pro
Seriesä.
