Blenkarn Makes Podium at Portland International Raceway

Aldergrove, B.C. Canada Annette Blenkarn made her Rose Cup debut on June 8th in top form by finishing second in her CP2-classed #13 Skagit Powers/92.9 FM/Bardahl Oil Toyota Corolla GTS. After qualifying 2nd in class, Blenkarn called upon her extensive quarter-midget and dirt oval racing experience to contend with the huge and diverse field of cars on the challenging circuit. This was her first time at the Cup and her second race on the Portland circuit.

“On the start, I passed at least five cars before we got to the other side of the Festival Curves,” described Annette. “And I was able to stay clean and pass much more powerful cars with no problem.”

Annette was also very impressed with the facility and the caliber of racing at the popular event.

“The caliber of drivers in the different class was very high and the fans were so supportive. It was neat to be part of such a huge national event as my first senior license road race.”

Blenkarn is competing in a full schedule of both Canadian Auto Car Clubs and International Conference of Sports Car Clubs races, vying for a CACC Production Class championship title. She is also participating in a limited schedule of SCCA regional events for the 2002 season.

Annette is a Vancouver-area resident and business owner. Although Annette is new to road racing, she is a motorsports veteran. She began racing in 1990 and has competed in Quarter Midgets where she was a regular top finisher in the Grand Nationals. In 1996, she secured the Region 9 Monza Quarter Midget Championship, winning eight out of ten races.

She was named the 1997 Mini Sprint Rookie-of-the-Year. In 1998, she dominated “Championship Night” for her victory at Deming Speedway, North America’s second-largest Mini Sprint event, eclipsed only by the prestigious Clay Cup Nationals.
