Sisters Honored
HILLIARD,
OHIO Racing sisters Dana and Tracy Conlin were honored
November 22 at the Mid State Ohio Kart Club (MSOKC) awards
banquet at Gala Events in Grove City, Ohio, for their accomplishments
in the 2003 racing season.
Dana
Conlin, 21, was recognized as 2003 HPV class champion and
received her first place trophy, the HPV champions jacket
and a set of racing tires. In addition to her MSOKC championship,
Dana was recently honored at the Great Lakes Sprint Series
awards banquet in Fort Wayne, Indiana, for placing third in
the HPV Senior Light class championship. The Great Lakes Sprint
Series is a regional karting championship that conducts races
in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania. 2003
was Danas third year of kart racing and her first year
in the high-performance HPV class.
Tracy
Conlin, 17, received the sixth place trophy for her finish
in the MSOKC Briggs Stock Medium championship. In her first
year of karting, the sixth place in the highly competitive
Briggs class was a respected finish by her peers. Daryl Dillon
of Columbus, an 18 year veteran of kart racing said of Tracys
placement, People just dont realize how hard it
is to be (in top finishing positions in races) and be consistent
all the time to get the points.
Jim
Conlin, Conlin SpeedSports owner commenting on the girls
accomplishments said, These young women are very determined
to narrow the gender gap in racing they compete against
veteran, cagey guys and young, hungry guys and prove week
after week they deserve to be in there fighting with the best
of them. Dana and Tracy are two of only four women competing
regularly in the MSOKC series at Circleville Raceway Park
in Circleville, Ohio.
Dana and Tracy reside in Hilliard, Ohio, and race for their
familys karting team, Conlin SpeedSports. Dana is an
Assistant Teacher at the Goddard School of Dublin and attends
Columbus State College part time. Tracy is a Senior at Hilliard
Darby High School and works part time at Physicians Health
Service in Hilliard. She is preparing to pursue a degree in
Zoology after graduation. Both women competed in 2003 with
the help of Infonetics, Inc. and McCall Motorsports, both
of Grove City and J & J Racing of Erie, Pennsylvania.
Go
kart racing or karting is widely acknowledged
as the first step in a professional racing drivers career
but is also a high-speed family sport for thousands of families
across the United States and around the world. Specialized
chassis, tires and engines allow racing karts to attain speeds
upwards of 80 mph.
