July 27, 2004 Connolly is Perfect at Mid-Season Championship Aurora, ON -
Aurora, Ontario, Late-Model Rookie Amanda Connolly posted yet another fantastic night at Sunset Speedway. Amanda piloted her fast Monte Carlo to the front of the pack in Heat one, getting underneath the leader on lap 7 of 10 to take the checkered. Heat two would be no different: this time she took the #16 to the high side and made the pass on the last lap for the win.
"The car seemed to be working really well in the heats. I could take it up high or down low -- it was fast all around. When I saw the Mid-Season Championship feature line-up, we were on the pole, and I knew we had the car to pull it off," said Connolly.
Connolly started on the pole for Sunset Speedway's 35-lap Mid-Season Championship race and quickly pulled away from the field, leading at one point by an entire straightaway. The caution-filled event made Connolly work even harder to maintain position, but she managed to pull from the field with precise restarts and cruise to victory.
The night marked Connolly's first-ever career "hat trick," her third Late Model feature of the Season, and added two more heat wins, to make ten so far this year.
The late models return to the Stroud, Ontario, oval on Saturday, July 31, at 7:00 p.m. to continue the battle for the 2004 Plan Group Points Championship. |
