August 3, 2004 Connolly Dominates Again with Back-to-Back Wins Aurora, ON - 24-year-old Late model Rookie sensation Amanda Connolly once again piloted her #16 Inside Track/KICX 104 FM Chevrolet to victory lane at Sunset Speedway on Saturday, July 31.
Connolly started on the outside pole of the 2004 points leader in Heat 1; she took control of the race on lap 2 with a smooth inside pass and cruised to the win. Heat 2, Amanda battled from 10th and made it up to 6th, settling for that position as the side-by-side racing up front made it impossible to gain anymore spots.
Connolly lined up 7th to start the main event, working her way patiently to the front and eventually taking the car to the outside to take over the second position and make a run for the lead. The caution came out on lap 10, and Amanda would restart in the second position. On lap 12, Amanda made a smooth move to the inside and powered by the leader to gain control of the field. The caution would fly twice after that. However, precision restarts would allow Connolly to pull away from the field and not be challenged for the lead once in the 25-lap contest.
Connolly's win comes after her July 24th "hat trick" and marks back-to-back wins and her fourth feature victory of the year. She maintains a stronghold on the 5th position in the Plan Group Championship Points battle, 66 points behind the leader.
"The car has been working so well for us. I have an incredible team behind me and an amazing driving coach," said Connolly. "I'm so fortunate to have such great support from my sponsors, team, friends, and family; they are the ones that are making all of this come together. If we keep going the way we've been going, we're rapidly picking up points on the leaders, and we could make it a close battle at the end."
Amanda returns to Sunset Speedway on August 14, 2004. This Friday, August 6, Connolly will make her debut appearance at the prestigious Kawartha Speedway.
