Weathers Storm, Prepares to Race in California
Eddyville, Ky. Kim Crosby has spent the last
few days doing what everyone else who lives in the New Orleans
area has been doing, surviving.
Crosby lives in Slidell, La., on the northern shore of Lake
Pontchartrain. She and her husband Chris evacuated on Sunday
and rode out Hurricane Katrina in Vicksburg, Miss. on Monday.
She was able to return to the area on Tuesday and verify that
her house had survived the storm. But even so, it will be
at least a month before the area is habitable again
Im one of the lucky ones, said Crosby.
We were able to get out of the path of the storm and
well have something to come home to. So many people
didnt have a way to leave and now are being forced to
evacuate as their homes are being destroyed by the flood.
I cannot fathom what they have had to endure, what they are
still enduring.
My heart goes out to all of those people who are still
stuck in New Orleans.
Even with the trials of the past few days, Crosby said she
wants to race this weekend.
I thought about it long and hard over the past few
days but in the end it was pretty clear to me, Crosby
said. There is nothing we could do at home, even if
they didnt want everyone to leave the area.
