Katie Croucher: Solid Result for Girlracer

After a six week break the Fiestas were out racing again this time at Castle Combe. Chichester racing driver Katie Croucher was hopeful of a good result after a successful test session at the circuit the week before.

Qualifying was at 8.40am on a misty morning so the track was very greasy. Katie put in a good time for the conditions of 1.27.4 to put her in 19th place on the grid. The race was not until 1pm so Katie and her family did some work on the car changing tyre pressures and suspension.

The cars were to be lined up on the grid in a 3-2-3 formation. Katie was in the middle of a line of three with all the 1400 Fiesta's a gap behind her, so she was boxed in; it was going to be a difficult start.

Castle Combe starts off a very wide circuit but the first two corners become narrow until it is single file through the first chicane. Katie had a very good start. A bunch of cars on the right had boxed themselves in and were holding each other up, so she went past them all on the left side of the track getting up to 12th place. Miraculously all cars got through the first tight corners and the race began.

Katie was gaining on the pack of cars in front until the 2nd chicane when car 32 lunged her on the inside but went in too fast and spun. Katie narrowly avoided him but the gap had got bigger from the cars in front.

There were a couple of yellow flags waving after cars had gone off the track into the barrier, but Katie stayed in 12th place battling it out with car 32 and 23 behind her.
Car 32 got past on the first corner on another brave lunge on the inside and two laps later car 23 did the same after Katie went a little wide. She kept up with car 23 until the next lap when the chequered flag went out with her finishing in 14th place doing a quicker lap time of 1.26.6.

Katie was happy with the result and is looking forward to the next race at Oulton Park in 3 weeks time.
