Sondi Eden Finishes in the Top Five in the USAC National Race
Sondi had a rough start, but she was determined to turn things around and her perseverance paid off. The night started with a poor qualifying run (17th/34), and then in the heat race the car was too loose and she didn’t transfer; so she had to run the semi-feature. The car was working, and Sondi finished 4th to transfer into the feature. Although Sondi started 17th, she knew with a good car and patience that she could make it to the front. Robert Correll got the Jonathan Byrd’s Catering/Impact Racing/Auto
Meter/Morse Family Dentistry/Bill Gentry Brayton Chevy-powered Hawk midget hooked up for the 100-lap National USAC feature.
The next race was with the Dave Stetler Chevrolet/NAPA Auto Parts sprint car at the quarter-mile flat track of New Paris Speedway (IN). Sondi was faced with a big challenge, as the sprint car was not handling well. She qualified 17th, and in the heat race she had a flat tire; so she didn’t finish. The car was working a little better for the feature, and she stayed out of trouble and finished 13th. Sondi still managed to hold on to 4th place in the points.
Sondi will return in the midget to the Indianapolis Speedrome Wednesday 7/14 and in the sprint car to South Bend Speedway, IN, Friday 7/16.
