Sondi
Eden Wins Preliminary 410 Wing Sprint Car Race
Crawfordsville, Ind. - USAC Indianapolis Speedrome
midget racing champion Sondi Eden got to experience the thrill
of thirty-three, 800 horsepower sprint cars on a quarter-mile,
high-banked racetrack! What a sight Eleven rows of
three coming down for the green. That was quite an experience
and one I wont forget. Sondi said of her first
Little 500 start.
Eden and car owner Robert Correll, Jamestown, IN, entered
the Little 500 after landing sponsorship from Great Deals
Coupon Magazine based in Anderson but covers the whole state
of Indiana. Sondi qualified respectively and ran a conservative
race. She had moved up partly through attrition and partly
through racing. 200 laps into the race the ignition quit and
that put the team on the sidelines.
Sondi traveled to Fort Wayne, IN with car owners, John &
Sharon Batts, Advance, IN, to race the Auto Value wing sprint
car show. Sondis qualifying was average but she won
the preliminary heat race decisively. They started 15th in
the feature and worked hard to finish 13th. Sondi says of
her evening We worked hard but just couldnt find
enough speed.
Sondi got the opportunity to test Dr. Jim Logan/Robert Corrells
pavement silver crown car. Everything went smooth. They were
in the ballpark on speed and their Bailey Engine performed
strong. I really enjoyed driving the car at the Milwaukee
Mile. Ive heard a lot about the place but have never
been there. Quoted Sondi.
The team is excited to have help from good quality people
that have good quality products. Check out the products CASITE
has to offer at www.casite.com. The team will be using CASITE
products in all three racing divisions.
Because of the teams low budget, Sondi had to decide
between testing the silver crown car at Milwaukee or testing
and racing at Indianapolis Raceway Park (IRP). Since she had
never been in a silver crown car and she really wants to show
well in that series she chose the silver crown test. A friend
and supporter of Sondi, Bill Gentry Racing, decided to help
her out some to race at IRP. The team decided they would try
it, even though they havent tested the USAC sprint car
there. They needed to test like everyone else as they had
a very frustrating evening. They struggled all night and changed
many things but ran out of time. Nothing worked and they missed
the show.
Hoosier Outlaw Sprint Series was scheduled to race at the
high banks of Salem Speedway but mother nature had other plans.
Sondi was anxious to return to Salem because she enjoys racing
there and had a top five finish there last year in her first
ever sprint car race.
NEXT EVENTS WILL BE THE 410 WING SPRINT CAR ON 6/17 AT HAWKEY
DOWNS IN CEDAR RAPIDS, IA AND THEN, HAPPY FATHERS DAY,
6/19 AT ROCKFORD SPEEDWAY IN ROCKFORD, IL.
