Sondi
Eden's USAC Silver Crown Debut
Crawfordsville, IN The first part of July was
not very newsworthy as Sondi and the team suffered through
rain and a poor handling sprint car at Toledo. The next day
was in the wing-sprint car at New Paris Speedway. Sondi qualified
7th. She led 15 laps until she lost the lead on the second
restart. Then she got spun out and had to work her way up
where she finally finished 12th.
At the Milwaukee Mile, July 22 & 23, Sondi was very excited
to have the opportunity to race in USACs elite division.
Racing a silver crown car has always been a goal of
mine and to be at the Milwaukee Mile with the IRL and Infiniti
Pro Series is very special. Sondi said of her debut.
Sondi was disappointed in only getting one practice. The
car was very loose in the final practice/qualifying run but
she got the most out of it and qualified 31st. The qualifying
race helped to bring out the handling problems. With the handling
problems solved, she was able to feel comfortable starting
from the back row. As the race progressed, she began to move
up in the field. With three laps left in the race she had
moved up to 15th place. The engine had begun to miss and she
had to bring the car to the pits. The team lost five positions
and ended up 20th in the final standings. This was a really
good run for their first silver crown race. I had a
lot of fun racing the silver crown car and I learned a lot
in 100 laps, well 97 laps. I really wanted to finish the race
but the engine was missing and then it just quit. The team
and I are both learning and they found the right direction
for the set up and the car was a lot better for the feature
which allowed me to pass cars and that is fun. Said
Sondi.
Sondi went from the Milwaukee Mile to the ¼ mile high
banks of South Bend. The first six qualifiers were within
.02 seconds of each other. Sondi was 6th and they drew a five
for the inversion. Passing was difficult on the tight track
but Sondi passed one car to finish 5th.
