Hennessy to Represent USA at International Speedway Competition
in England
Latham, N.Y. - Amanda Hennessy, a 23-year-old Latham
woman with a talent and passion for auto racing, will step
into the international spotlight next week when she represents
the United States at the Nations Cup Challenge at the
Rockingham Motor Speedway in England.
The competition, to be held Aug. 27 and 28, will pit women
drivers from 16 countries against each other. The event is
a precursor to the eight-race Nations Cup series to
be held next year in England and is sponsored jointly by Formula
Woman, a British organization that promotes women in motor
sports, and the British Automobile Racing Club,
This is a big step not only for me but for women in
racing, said Hennessy. The TV exposure alone will
be huge, she pointed out, adding that coverage of the
event will be aired in 26 countries around the world by Satellite
Motor TV.
Hennessy has had significant success over the past several
years in a variety of Sports Car Club of America-sponsored
events throughout the U.S. Im going as far as
I possibly can in auto racing and Im very excited about
this upcoming competition, she commented recently. Participation
in this international event is a huge step forward for me,
she added.
All contestants will race in identical Caterham Roadsport
B 1.6-litre K-series engineered cars owned and prepared by
Formula Woman.
This series promises to be a shoot-out to remember
and a unique opportunity for women racers from all over the
world., said Series coordinator Penny Mattocks.
Hennessy began competing on oval tracks as a teenager in
go-karts at Lebanon Valley Speedway and later behind the wheel
of a Volkswagen ice racing on frozen Adirondack lakes. In
recent years she has graduated to serious hard pavement auto
competitions in a variety of premier racing venues such as
Lime Rock Park, Ct., and Watkins Glen, N.Y. Specifically,
she has excelled at many Spec Racer Ford competitions in the
northeast representing Motion Dynamics and KML Racing. Most
recently, she has participated in a number of Skip Barber
racing events.
Hennessy works fulltime as a master-certified GM Automotive
Technician at Genrdrons Truck Center in Troy. She graduated
from Hudson Valley Community Colleges Automotive Service
Educational Program with a 4.0 GPA.
Hennessy holds the following racing licenses: Sports Club
of America, FIA international license, British license and
a Skip Barber racing license. Her participation in this international
competition is being sponsored by her employer, Gendrons,
M@T Bank, and the Cool Insurance Company of Latham.
