Hoskinson Defends Ontario Championship Title in Black Bear

Joan Hoskinson, Canada’s only female Performance Rally competitor this season, is returning to round two of the 2004 Ontario Regional Performance Rally Championships at the Black Bear Rally in Dorset this weekend to defend her historic 2003 title. Last year, Joan became the first woman in history ever to win the Ontario Novice and Ontario Top Driver Production 4 Class in 2003 for the Ontario Performance Rally Championships.

Joan will be racing her Subaru Impreza R.S with latest co-driver B.Gilles Lacroix, who has raced alongside Joan this season following the absence of regular co-pilot, Laurence Fanny-L’Estage. The Thunder Bay-based driver brings determination and fight to the OPRC Production 4 Class in Dorset following a disappointing performance in Rocky Mountain last month, where she finished 21st out of 31 entrants.

Coming into the Rally as current Regional Championship title holder, a top-3 win at Black Bear Rally is essential for Joan’s standings in the 2004 series. After experiencing car problems and alterations earlier in the season, Joan is set to stage a dramatic comeback. The Black Bear Rally, which is held annually and organized by the Maple Leaf Rally Club, is a favourite amongst spectators and drivers alike.

Says Joan, “Black Bear is an exciting rally for me this weekend -- not only because I will be defending my championship title but also because it is a challenging course requiring technical precision and speed. It is also a great opportunity for Lacroix and myself to practise our strategy and techniques as a team in preparation for next week’s National Canadian Rally Championship at Baie de Chaleurs in Quebec.”
