Cindi Lux,
Team NAYKID Racing Make Clean Sweep at Sportscar Invitational
PORTLAND, Ore - June 17, 2002 - Sportscar champion Cindi
Lux had a successful weekend behind the wheel of the McCormack
Manufacturing Corvette. Lux placed second in the GTS class
and third overall at Saturday's Sportscar Invitational, a
support race to the world-class G.I. Joe's 200 CART race at
Portland International Raceway. Team owner and teammate Scotty
B. White went head to head with Lux in his Kumho Tires/Redline
Oil Z 06 World Challenge Corvette. White took the GTS class
and overall victory.
Lux acquired the lead at the start of the race by out-braking
and sliding by her teammate in a banzai move in the chicane.
She continued to hold onto the overall lead for the following
three laps. Lux was able to maintain third overall and second
in GTS class through the checkered flag, despite some good
old-fashioned door-rubbing racing.
"I can't thank Scotty enough for letting me drive his
hotrod! The invitational race weekend was a blast," exclaimed
Lux. "Anytime I can get out on the circuit, especially
at my home track at PIR and in a Corvette, is a great day
at the office."
"This was a storybook ending for Naykid Racing Team,"
said White. "A one-two finish for both cars is great
and I always love racing with Cindi. I think people have realized
that she can't be intimated, and she proved it at this race."
In the 12 years that she has been racing cars, Lux has driven
in the American Le Mans Series with a top five finish in the
Petit Le Mans Race in 2000; won the inaugural Women's Global
GT Series Championship and seven other road racing championships;
won the 1999 SCCA Oregon Region Pro-Driver of the Year; set
track records at more than a half-dozen racetracks; and has
twice won the legendary Nelson Ledges 24-hour Endurance Race
in Ohio.
