Paterson Joins the American Le Mans Series Again

October 9, 2002– Braselton, Georgia - Melanie Paterson will join the American Le Mans Series again for the final race of the season at the Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta. Melanie will join Team Bucknum Racing and will race the #55 Pilbeam/Nissan along with co-drivers Pierre Ehret and John Olson in the LMP 675 class. This ten-hour endurance race will mark the end of the 2002 American Le Mans season and will run Saturday October 12, being televised live on SPEED Channel.

Melanie debuted in the American Le Mans Series this year and competed at the Trois-Rivieres Grand Prix and the Grand Prix of Mosport with a third and second place finish, respectively, in the LMP 675 class. Melanie has been racing the #19 Schneiders Hot Rod Lola/Nissan for Essex Racing of Atlanta this year, with team owner Michael Gue and technical director Tony Dowe. She was planning to be at Petit Le Mans with Essex again, but at the 11th hour, due to unforeseen circumstances, the team had to withdraw.

“We have been working towards this program for a while. Unfortunately, we were one driver short and couldn’t make it happen” said Paterson. “The car is ready to go, but without three drivers, the program cannot successfully be implemented. I am disappointed that Essex will not be entered, but Michael felt that in fairness to myself and my sponsors, he needed to secure a seat for me with Team Bucknum.”

Melanie is pleased to be joining Team Bucknum Racing for the Petit Le Mans and notes:
“They are the team that beat me both times this year so I know they do a good job driving and prepare good cars! Jeff Bucknum, along with the team, is very knowledgeable and this will be another good experience for me.”

Melanie will be joined this weekend with new sponsor Cartech of San Antonio, Texas. Cartech began as a manufacturer of aftermarket turbo systems in 1977 and has grown to enjoy an international reputation for the design and manufacture of forced induction and high performance automotive components.

Melanie’s other corporate partners include Schneiders Hot Rod, Canada’s favourite beef snack, technology leader Imation Canada Inc., Maraca Canada, Driving Unlimited and GeoGraphics Motorsport Graphics.
