Angela
Makes Final Round Appearance and Finishes as the Runner Up!
Team Angela Proudfoot Racing had an incredible weekend as
Angela placed 2nd at the K & N Filters NHRA Sport Compact
Nationals on June 15th and 16th in Reading, PA.
Phil Burgess, Editor of NHRASportCompact.com wrote, "Even
though Angela Proudfoot worked her way to her first NHRA final-round
appearance in Hot Rod, the weekend was anything but smooth
for the Washington, D.C.-based racer."
"After a solid 10.09 opening qualifying lap, the team
blew the head gasket on its second pass and, after staying
up all night to repair it, blew the gasket again in Sunday's
final qualifying session. After noting a charred head, the
team was ready to throw in the towel when Proudfoot learned
that her scheduled opponent, her perpetual nemesis Mike Crawford,
also was broken. With less than an hour to go before the first
round, the Chris Neidemire-led crew thrashed to get their
disassembled powerplant back together, slathering JB Weld
on the burn and high-tailing it to the staging lanes for a
soft single pass."
"Before their second-round race, the team found that
the throttle cable bracket was stripped, causing a vacuum
leak in the intake manifold. They quickly zip-tied the throttle
cable to fuel line."
"Luck shined on the team again when low qualifier Bruce
Mortensen lost a CV joint on his burnout prior to round two
as Proudfoot's throttle kept hitting the fuel line and sticking,
forcing her to putt down the track with Mortensen in crab-like
pursuit. The team made a new bracket for the throttle cable
and Proudfoot received another bye when Sav Leone's Honda
began leaking fluids on the starting line."
"Faced with the daunting prospect of facing defending
series champ JoJo Callos in the final, Proudfoot gave it her
all, but lost the number-four cylinder at the 330-foot mark
and could only watch as Callos powered to the win with his
best run of the event, an 8.87."
"This was the most action-packed weekend we've had yet
this season," said Angela. "We were faced with both
good and bad fortune and, as a team, we pulled together and
made the most of it. With a hurt motor, all I could do was
go out there and give it my best. I was willing to blow that
motor in the pursuit of victory, but the fact that I finished
as the Runner Up does not at all disappoint me. In fact, I
am ecstatic. This may have put us in the top ten overall in
point standings (still pending the official points tally from
NHRA). Most importantly, I couldn't have done it without the
support of APC, PETA, Tokico, Offix and Unorthodox Racing.
It is my sponsors that make it all possible."
Be sure to watch the race when it airs on ESPN2 on Sunday,
July 7th from 9:30-10 p.m. EST.
