Proudfoot Uninjured After Crash: Finishes as Runner-UP
Angela Proudfoot walked away uninjured after losing control
of the PETA-sponsored Angela Proudfoot Racing Civic August
28th in Atco, N.J. during the Maple Grove, Penn. makeup race.
"I was in the final round competing against Joe Demaree
when the car made a hard left and before I knew it I had hit
the wall at 135 mph," said Angela. "It all happened
so fast. I just remember thinking, 'this is it, I'm gonna
hit it,' then fighting the car to get it off the wall. After
the initial impact on the front left side, the car bounced
and hit the wall with the back left, then scraped with the
quarter panel before I was able to regain control and maneuver
it away."
An early assessment revealed moderate damage with the left
front wheel and lower control arm having absorbed most of
the impact. The frame does not appear to be bent. "At
the very least, we will have to replace some suspension components,
fabricate new wheelie bars, and replace the left quarter panel,
bumper and front end. Luckily everything in the engine bay
was spared," said Angela. "The worst part was that
even though I crossed the finish line first, I had to take
the runner-up position because my car went out of bounds resulting
in a disqualification. But, I guess, that's racing, and you
just have to roll with the punches."
The team intends to have the car ready for competition for
the Moroso makeup race to be held on September 25th-26th in
Moroso, Florida.
The cause of the crash has not yet been determined.
