Martinsville Not Kind to Renshaw
Multiple Problems Made for Long Day
MARTINSVILLE, VA Deborah Renshaw had high expectations
heading into Martinsville this past weekend as she had earned
her career best NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series finish at the
famous short track last year. However, things did not go her
way this time around as she and her #8 Easy Care DODGE were
relegated to a disappointing 28th place finish in the running
of the Kroger 250.
That was a rough day out there, stated Deborah.
We got caught up in that early wreck as we had no where
to go. That damaged our front end pretty good and the truck
was never the same. Also, after about 60 laps we started to
lose our brakes and that made it real tough to get around
this place. Then right there at the end we lost voltage for
some reason. In all, it was tough out there and I just tried
to stay out of harms way and bring the truck home safely at
the end of the race.
Deborah started the 250 lap event from the 32nd position
as a result of her qualifying effort on Friday. The eventful
weekend for Renshaw started in the only practice session before
qualifying when a truck spun in front of her and she was left
with nowhere to go. The incident produced some damage to the
front of her #8 DODGE and ended her practice early
thus providing her with only 18 laps in practice prior to
qualifying.
The bad luck for the Bowling Green, Kentucky native would
continue on lap three of the event
when she was an innocent victim of trucks wrecking in front
of her. The result was some significant damage to the front
end of the #8 DODGE once again and would make for a long afternoon.
On lap 67, Deborah radioed to her crew that she was loosing
the brake pedal already and that forced her to alter her driving
style around the tough confines of Martinsville.
Renshaw and her BHR2 team would fight for all they could
get the rest of the race and came home with the 28th place
finish. The finish would keep Deborah in the 27th position
of the overall points standings.
I was very excited coming into this week and this was
not what we were looking for, said Renshaw. But
we just need to walk out of here with our heads held high
and move onto the next race at Gateway. Our whole program
is getting better and it is just a matter of time before we
bring home the finishes to show that.
Deborah and her team will have a few weeks off to re-group
before they head to the Gateway International Raceway for
the running of the DODGE Ram Tough 200 on April 30th.
