Renshaw has Tough Trip to Gateway Late Race Accident Hampers Drivers Run
Madison, Illinois After a solid start to the
season, Deborah Renshaw has had two straight disappointing
races in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. The latest came
on Saturday night where a late race accident left Renshaw
with a 34th place finish in the running of the DODGE Ram Tough
200 at the Gateway International Raceway.
Needless to say that was a tough night out there,
stated Deborah. We struggled from the beginning of the
race with a tight race truck and ultimately that led to me
pushing the limits and losing control of the truck off turn
two. I thought I had it saved and then I hit that grass and
I was along for the ride into the inside wall. That was a
hard hit and unfortunately we hurt our truck pretty good and
ended our night.
Deborah started the 200 mile event from the 30th position
as a result of her qualifying effort earlier in the day on
Saturday. The dropping of the green flag would see the Bowling
Green, Kentucky native maintain her position until lap 15
when she would spin off turn two. Under green flag conditions,
Deborah would bring her No. 8 Easy Care DODGE machine down
pit road for four fresh tires and a chassis adjustment. She
would return to action on the track and slowly begin to work
her way as far through the field as she could given being
down a few laps.
The midpoint of the 160 lap event saw Deborah in the 32nd
position with her sights on salvaging the best possible finish.
However, disaster struck on lap 104 when she spun once again
off turn four while making a pass under another truck. This
time the No. 8 DODGE spun in the grass and hard into the inside
wall on the backstretch. The heavy damage to the front of
the truck ended the night for Renshaw and her BHR2 team.
These are the type of races that I need to learn from
as a young driver in this series, said Renshaw. We
had a decent truck early in the practice session today and
then we just got dialed out. From there I just really struggled
with the handling during the race and I think that forced
me to make some moves that I normally would not and
we ended up with a wrecked truck. My guys on this team bust
their tails on giving me great trucks each week and we support
each other through the high and the lows. All we can do is
put this behind us and move on to the next race and put up
a solid run.
The 34th place finish kept Renshaw in the 27th position in
the overall driver standings and 29th in the precious owners
standings.
Deborah and her team will have a week off to recover before
they head to the Mansfield Motorsports Speedway for the running
of the UAW/GM 250 on May 15th.
