Renshaw has Bad Luck in Ohio
Mid-Race Trouble Hampers Run
MANSFIELD, OHIO Deborah Renshaws hope
for a solid run was dashed at the midway point on Sunday after
getting tangled with another truck - resulting in her No.
8 DODGE making hard contact with the turn one wall. The result
was a discouraging 34th place finish in the running of the
UAW/GM 250 at the Mansfield Motorsports Speedway.
I am very disappointed with what happened out there
today, stated Deborah. My guys gave me a real
good truck today and I was getting more comfortable with each
lap out there. We lost a lap during a pit sequence but we
had a good run going and were looking to get that lap back
at some point. Unfortunately we got a little help from another
truck going into turn one and we suffered some front end damage
that put us behind the wall for a bit.
In front of a full house crowd, Deborah started the 250-lap
event from the 35th position as a result of her qualifying
effort on Saturday. The dropping of the green flag would see
the Bowling Green, Kentucky native move forward through the
field as her confidence grew with each lap around the bullring.
By lap 50 Renshaw had moved up ten spots to the 25th position.
A pit stop sequence on laps 56 and 59 returned the No. 8 DODGE
truck to the track at the tail end of the lead lap which unfortunately
led to the loss of a lap.
Renshaw was not discouraged with the loss of a lap and she
would turn some of her fastest laps of the weekend as she
battled for that Lucky Dog position. However,
disaster struck on lap 105 when an unfortunate incident in
turn one resulted in Deborah and her No. 8 DODGE making heavy
contact with the outside wall. With some significant damage
on the front end she was forced behind the wall for repairs.
The No. 8 truck would return to the track on lap 172 and complete
the remainder of the event but was relegated to the undeserving
34th place finish.
I struggled a little in the early part of this weekend
but as I got more laps under my belt I was getting pretty
comfortable, said Renshaw. I really feel that
we had a good run going and we needed to come out of here
with a good finish. But this is short track racing at its
best and anything can happen and unfortunately for
us it turned out badly. We just need to put this one behind
us and focus on the upcoming race at Lowes.
Deborah and her BHR2 team will have no time to reflect on
the Mansfield race as a short week sees them racing this Friday
night at the Lowes Motor Speedway.
