Renshaw Continues Momentum in Texas
FORT WORTH, TX Deborah Renshaw came into the
big state of Texas riding a wave of momentum after a career
best run one week earlier. She continued that momentum with
a career best qualifying effort and a solid 18th place finish
on Friday night in the running of the Chex 400K at the Texas
Motor Speedway.
We needed to come here and get another solid run and
we did just that, said Renshaw. Our No. 8 EasyCare
DODGE was strong all weekend and again I got acclimated to
the track. The chemistry with me and this team is progressing
nicely and it is showing with our results on the track. Also,
my personal confidence is growing with each race and I am
getting more comfortable with racing in the NASCAR Craftsman
Truck Series.
Renshaw started the weekend off just like she ended last
weeks career high finish; this time around with an impressive
career best qualifying effort of ninth the best qualifying
effort by a female in the series since the 1997 season.
I have always had a hard time getting into the qualifying
mode but this week I think I hit on something, stated
Deborah. It sure does make things a little easier on
the drop of the green flag when you are starting up front
as track position is so important in these races.
The drop of the green flag on Friday evening saw Deborah
fall back a few positions as she demonstrated patience in
the early stages of the 167 lap event. The Bowling Green,
Kentucky native would settle into the 15th position and ride
there for the first quarter of the race. Her first trip down
pit road under caution on lap 31 provided for four tires,
fuel and a track bar adjustment on her No. 8 DODGE machine.
Back to green flag racing, Deborah would maintain her same
position on the track and gain some valuable racing experience
on the 1.5-mile track.
Another trip down pit road on lap 75 allowed for tires, fuel
and one more track bar adjustment to adjust for a tight
off the corners condition on the No. 8 DODGE. The adjustment
helped and allowed Deborah to run as high as 12th in the second
half of the event. A long green flag run to end the race saw
Renshaw come down pit road on lap 139 for the first time in
her career under green flag conditions. This was yet another
part of the learning process for the sophomore driver as she
continues her maturation in the Craftsman Truck Series. In
the end, Deborah would come home with her second solid finish
in a row and her third top-20 finish of the season.
I am having the most fun of my racing career right
now, stated Renshaw. This BHR2 team is giving
me a strong truck each week and I am getting comfortable with
racing these trucks more and more each time out. I think we
had a little better truck than our finish indicated tonight
but in the big picture of things it was important for me to
come back after last week and have another solid run. I am
looking forward to this busy stretch of the season we have
in front of us and keeping this momentum going that we have
right now.
The 18th place finish kept Deborah positioned in the 28th
spot of the overall drivers standings- this despite
running one less race than most of her fellow competitors.
Deborah will head to the irish hills of Michigan
this coming week as she looks to continue her impressive momentum
at the Michigan Speedway for the running of the Paramount
Health Insurance 200 on Saturday afternoon.
