Renshaw Claws Way to 21st Place Finish at MIS
Brooklyn, MI– Deborah Renshaw has been on an
impressive run the last few weeks in the NASCAR Craftsman
Truck Series and she continued that on Saturday but it did
not come easy. The Bowling Green, Kentucky native battled
the elements as she piloted her No. 8 Easy Care DODGE to a
21st place finish in the running of the Paramount Health Insurance
200 at the Michigan International Speedway.
“I had some troubles getting comfortable with things
this week,” said Deborah. “I really struggled in
practice and Bobby Jr. (Hamilton) came over and jumped in
my truck to feel things out and help me get around this place.
I am not sure what it was this week but my confidence was
a little shaken there for a bit but my guys stayed behind
and gave me a good truck. I just stayed after it and put down
a good qualifying lap once again – which we needed to
make the race. After that I felt much better and found some
rhythm for the race.”
With the pressure on her to qualify on time once again this
week, Renshaw threw down a solid lap to garner the 21st starting
spot on the grid. At the start of the 100 lap event, Deborah
would fall back in the field a little as her No. 8 DODGE fought
a “tight off the corner” condition. Renshaw would
come down pit road a few times during the event for adjustments
and they seemed to be helping.
With her crew using some pit strategy, Deborah found herself
in the sixth position on a lap 49 restart. She would hang
around in the top 15 until a vibration on lap 58 forced a
green flag pit stop for the No. 8 DODGE. The vibration proved
to be a right rear tire worn down to its cords and returned
Deborah to the track one lap down from the leaders. A quick
caution on lap 64 awarded the No. 8 DODGE the ‘lucky
dog’ award and a return to the lead lap.
The last 30 laps of the race saw Renshaw at her best during
the weekend as she turned some of her best laps. She would
go on to avoid some late race troubles and come home with
a solid 21st place finish.
The finish moved Deborah and her No. 8 BHR2 team into the
30th position in the current owner’s standings –
a major move with the new qualifying procedure in place. The
finish also moved Renshaw up one spot to 27th in the driver’s
standings.
“I really appreciate the support my team gave me all
weekend,” stated Renshaw. “It was a rough weekend
but at the end of it we came home with another solid finish.
This three race stretch we have just completed has been a
big confidence booster for me and I look forward to continuing
it next week in Milwaukee.”
