Renshaw and Team Go The Extra Mile in Milwaukee
WEST ALLIS, WI– Deborah Renshaw’s first
visit to the historic Milwaukee Mile was not one she will
want to remember. The Bowling Green, KY native recovered from
a practice accident to jump into her back-up truck and steer
her No. 8 DODGE to a 24th place finish in the running of the
Toyota Tundra Milwaukee 200.
“Today was probably the roughest day of our season so
far,” stated Deborah. “We struggled right from the
beginning in practice and then we went out to make a sticker
run and I am not sure what happened. I got into the turn four
wall pretty good and tore up the truck and banged up my foot
a little. My guys worked their tails off on a hot day and
got the back-up truck prepared for qualifying and the race.
They did a fantastic job and we were able to go out there
and complete the race. I was getting pretty comfortable with
things during the second half of the race and we were able
to come home with a decent finish. ”
After wrecking her primary truck in practice, Deborah took
a short trip to a local hospital for x-rays on her sore foot.
The x-rays came back negative and she returned to the track
in time to qualify the No. 8 DODGE. With her truck set up
for race conditions, Deborah would turn her fastest lap of
the day in her backup truck and would start the 200 lap event
from the 35th position.
The race would start with rain looming in the area and would
see the first 142 laps run caution free. Deborah slowly moved
her way through the field and was well inside the top 30 when
she came down pit road for a green flag pit stop on lap 82
for four fresh tires, fuel and a track bar adjustment to help
with the “tight” condition on her No. 8 DODGE. After
the cycle of green flag pit stops, Renshaw would find herself
sitting in the 25th position.
“My guys did an awesome job in the pits,” said
Renshaw. “With the pressure of a green flag pit stop
on all of us they really rose to the occasion and knocked
off an 18 second stop with an adjustment. That gained us a
few spots on the track and with track position being at a
premium out there that was huge.”
The only caution of the event would fly on lap 142 and provided
for a pit stop under caution on lap 145 for the BHR2 team.
Another strong stop put Renshaw in the 22nd spot once back
to green flag racing. The last 50 laps of the event would
see Deborah maintain her position and post some of her most
consistent laps of the weekend. In the end, the No. 8 DODGE
came home safely with a hard earned 24th place finish.
“Given everything that happened today I am really proud
of this team,” said Deborah. “At the same time I
learned a lot today that will help me as the season progresses.
This was one of those character building races and we were
able to come out of here with a decent finish. I was glad
to see Milwaukee in my rear view mirror and now turn my focus
towards Kansas.”
With a smile on her face, Deborah heads to Kansas this weekend
for the running of the O’Reilly Auto Parts 250 at the
Kansas Speedway on Saturday.
