Deborah Renshaw Collects Top-20 Finish Despite Illness

Sparta, KN – It seems as if there is nothing worse than not feeling your best when you know you have a job to do. Deborah Renshaw found that out all to well as she suffered from a stomach virus this week as the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series visited the popular Kentucky Speedway. Regardless, Deborah steered her No. 8 CallSource DODGE to a solid 19th place finish in the running of the Built Ford Tough 225 in her home state.

“I am not sure if I have ever felt worse in my life,” stated Deborah. “I may have spent as much time this weekend in the infield care center as I did in my truck. They pumped three big bags of fluid into me and that really seemed to help by the time race time rolled around. Our truck was tight all night like I think just about everyone else but we kept adjusting on it and made it much better for the second half of the race. Everyone really rallied behind me this week knowing that I was not feeling my best and that kept my spirits up.”

After posting the ninth fastest time in the practice session earlier on race day, Deborah would go on to qualify 19th for the 225-mile event under the lights. The drop of the green flag would see the Bowling Green, Kentucky native drop back through the field as she radioed to her crew that her No. 8 DODGE was extremely “tight”. She would hang tough but would eventually loose a lap to the leaders before a caution came out and allowed her to come down pit road for service on lap 47.

The middle portion of the 150-lap event would see Renshaw slowly gain on the handling of her truck and earn the precious lucky dog honor on lap 65 which would get her back onto the lead lap. Another trip down pit road would allow for further adjustments on her truck and as a result Deborah would find herself in the 17th position at the 100-lap mark.

After the teams last pit stop under caution on lap 105, Deborah radioed to her crew that the truck was the best it had been all night and her lap times showed that to be true. She would battle for precious positions on the track during the last portion of the event before receiving the checkered flag in the 19th spot.

“Considering the events of the whole weekend and how I felt – I will gladly leave here with another top-20 finish,” said Deborah. “This was a solid team effort tonight and a run that we needed after struggling the last few weeks. We had a lot of sponsor people from CallSource up in the stands and with it being my home state I had a few friends and family in attendance as well – so getting a decent finish feels good. I continue to make positive improvements and really look forward to the second half of the season coming up. I will enjoy the week off we got and then look to keep some momentum going when we head to Memphis in a few weeks.”

Renshaw and her BHR2 team will enjoy a week off before heading to the Memphis Motorsports Park for the running of the O’Reilly 200 under the lights on July 23rd.
