Deborah Renshaw Tested at IRP
Clermont, IN Deborah Renshaw knew that the
Craftsman Truck Series race on Friday night at the Indianapolis
Raceway Park would be a tough short track battle and it lived
up to her expectations. Renshaw was tested all night as she
drove her No. 8 EasyCare DODGE to a 27th place finish in the
running of the Power Stroke Diesel 200.
We struggled all day with our truck and that made for
a long night out there, stated Deborah. IRP is
a tricky track and I never got comfortable with the handling
of the truck. The guys on this BHR2 team never gave up and
we all put forth a tremendous effort. The weather really hurt
us as we did not get the track time that we really needed
and it seemed like we just chased it all night. But we did
finish the race and bring home our truck in one piece which
is always a good thing with these short track races.
With rain forcing the cancellation of the qualifying session
earlier in the day, Deborah would start her No. 8 DODGE truck
from the 29th position based on the current owners points.
The drop of the green flag in front of a large crowd would
see Deborah elude a lap three accident in front of her and
slowly move up a few spots in the field. She would radio to
her crew that she was fighting a tight condition
off the corners with her truck.
After two early cautions, the race would see a very rare
long green flag run which ultimately would lead to green flag
pit stops for the entire field. As the race reached the halfway
point of the 200-lap event, Deborah sat in the 28th spot.
The team was preparing for a green flag pit stop within a
few laps when on lap133 Renshaw radioed to her crew that she
had run out of fuel. She coasted her No. 8 DODGE down pit
road to the attention of her crew for four fresh tires and
desperately needed Sunoco fuel.
Deborah would return to the track in the 30th spot and a
few laps down. Although she tried to stay out of trouble in
the last 50 laps and just bring her truck home safely it would
not work out that. On lap 170 a fellow competitor would get
into the back of the No. 8 DODGE and send it spinning. Deborah
would keep the truck away from any further contact and would
come down pit road for four fresh tires and fuel.
In the end, Renshaw and her BHR2 team would come home with
an adventurous 27th place finish.
This was not the type of run we were looking for here
tonight but at least we do not have a torn up truck,
said Deborah. We just struggled all day out there as
a team and things just did not click for us. We took what
we could get and came out of here with a race truck in one
piece. We are going to go test at Bristol this week and then
get prepared for the big race in Nashville.
Deborah and her team next head to their backyard to the Nashville
Superspeedway for the running of the Toyota Tundra 200 on
Saturday August 13th.
