Renshaw Caught in Richmond Spin Cycle
Richmond, VA For the second year in a row,
Richmond International Raceway was not kind to Deborah Renshaw.
A frustrating night ended with a disappointing 35th place
finish for Renshaw and her No. 8 Heritage DODGE in the running
of the Cheerios Betty Crocker 200.
Boy, what a tough night we had out there, said
Renshaw. We struggled here last year and I was really
hoping we would come back this year with a solid run. I just
never got comfortable with the truck at any point all day
and then we got caught up in some early trouble and that made
for a long night. I think we would have been OK there but
we had another truck spin us out early in the race and we
just never recovered from that.
Deborah and her BHR2 team chased the handling on their No.
8 DODGE in the days two practice sessions and they felt good
with their truck in race trim. Although they qualified in
the 35th position there were high hopes entering the 200 lap
event under the lights. Once the green flag flew it didnt
take long for disaster to hit Deborah and her team. On lap10
while passing a slower truck on the outside, the fellow competitor
clipped the left rear of the No. 8 DODGE and sent it spinning
into the outside wall. The impact resulted in heavy damage
which made things extremely tough for Deborah.
New crew chief, Shawn Parker, led the No. 8 BHR2 crew in
fixing the truck during quick pit stops under yellow flag
conditions and Deborah managed to stay on the lead lap most
of the night with the help of the lucky dog award
on two occasions. Disaster would strike once again on lap150
when the No. 8 DODGE broke loose in traffic resulting in another
hard impact with the outside retaining wall. This impact would
put the No. 8 DODGE behind the wall and eventually end the
night for Renshaw and her BHR2 team. The result of a frustrating
evening was a 35th place finish.
This is one of those races that you just want to forget
about, said Deborah. For some reason this track
here at Richmond has not been kind to me and needless to say
I am happy to get out of here and head to New Hampshire next
week. I hate it for the guys on this team as they worked hard
all day and all we got to show for it is a horrible finish
and a tore up race truck.
