Renshaw Battles in Season Finale
Miami, FL Deborah Renshaw in the No. 8 Heritage
Dodge ended the 2005 season at the Homestead-Miami Speedway
with a 25th place finish in the Ford 200 NASCAR Craftsman
Truck Series finale. Renshaw and the Shawn Parker led team
chased the handling of the truck in practice and the difficulty
continued through qualifying. Despite the hard work and best
efforts of the BHR2 team, the 34th starting position was where
Renshaw qualified for the 134 lap event.
The truck wasnt handling well since we unloaded
and we didnt start where we would have liked to,
Renshaw said. We knew we could make up some ground in
the race but when rain caused us to race Saturday we
werent sure what wed have.
As the race began, Renshaw was able to deliver lap times
consistent with the times of the trucks running in the top-5.
Renshaw continued through the middle part of the race without
any major adjustments.
But as the laps wound down, Renshaws truck became tight
in the center and off the turns causing her times to fall
off and loose positions on the race track. On the team's last
pit stop the Heritage Dodge crew loosened the truck up hoping
to re-gain positions in the ten lap shootout to the checkered.
Renshaws truck got loose in the marbles when she was
racing three wide for position. On the high side of the track
in the scramble, Renshaw lost grip and spun but recovered
and was able to bring the truck to the checkered flag.
The truck was a little snug when we readied ourselves
for our last pit stop, Renshaw said. Shawn (Parker,
crew chief) asked me if I could stand to be freed up for the
ten lap shootout. We may have gone too far and I got loose
at the top of the track when we were three-wide racing and
spun. Im happy overall how we finished out the day.
I had a bad qualifying run but we were able to have a pretty
solid race.
Its been a great season. I told the guys on this BHR2
team before the race that this has been the best experience
Ive had in my career. These guys put their heart and
soul into these trucks every week and it showed. The last
five races weve made significant strides and really
have shown what this BHR2 team can do.
I want to congratulate both Ted Musgrave and Dennis Setzer
on their accomplishments this season. They both have been
great role models for me during my time in the NASCAR Craftsman
Truck Series.
Deborah Renshaw closed out her first full year competing
in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series with five top-20 finishes.
She had her career best finish in the series this year placing
12th at Dover in June. She also achieved her career best qualifying
effort of 8th at her home track in Nashville. The BHR2 team
with Ray Montgomery at the helm finished 28th in the 2005
Owner Points with Renshaw finishing 24th in the overall Driver
Points.
