Michelle Theriault To Skip USA International Speedway Race Due To Injury
Alpharetta, GA - Michelle Theriault, driver of the No. 8 Nergy Fitness Drink Ford Taurus, will sit out the June 5 USAR Hooters ProCup Series race at USA International Speedway in Lakeland, Florida, due to a lower back injury. She will return to full-time competition on June 26 at Myrtle Beach (SC) Speedway.
Theriault, 18, originally injured her back in a crash on April 24 at Concord Motorsports Park. Racing on the rough surface at the Music City Motorplex on May 22 aggravated the injury further.
"The crash at Concord was the hardest hit of my career," explained Theriault. "My back was sore for the next several weeks. During the Nashville race, the bumpy track intensified the pain in my back. My doctor has advised me to sit out the next race and undergo physical therapy."
After completing treatment, Theriault will return to full strength.
"It's very disappointing to miss a race, but it wouldn't be fair to my team or my sponsor if I was unable to give 100 percent," added Theriault. "I appreciate Nergy, Steve Husketh, and everyone on the Premiere Motorsports team being so supportive with this situation. Their support has made this difficult time bearable."
Theriault -- a Connecticut native now residing in Alpharetta, Georgia -- is competing in her rookie season in the USAR Hooters ProCup Series. The recent graduate from Milton High School is also a cast member on the Country Music Televison (CMT) reality-based program "The Drive."
