Takes Momentum from NASCAR Debut into Pro Cup Series Championship
|
Mooresville, NC - Michelle Theriault's NASCAR debut
proved to be a success as the 19-year-old drove the No. 77
NutriSystem Ford to a 15th place finish in Saturday's NAPA
200. The NASCAR Grand National Division, West Series race
was held at Douglas County Speedway in Roseburg, Ore.
The experience boosted Theriault's confidence as she heads
into the championship rounds of the USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series.
For the second consecutive year, she has qualified for the
season ending rounds, the only female to ever do so. The first
of five championship events is at Jennerstown (Pa.) Speedway
on Saturday, Sept. 24.
"My goals for the weekend were to race smart and to finish,"
said Theriault. "Thanks to Team NutriSystem, I had a
car that allowed me to reach both goals. Of course I would
have liked to finish better, but considering that I had very
little time in the car and this was my first NASCAR race,
I'm very satisfied.
"This whole experience was a step in the right direction
for me. My goal is to compete full-time in NASCAR and this
was an outstanding start. NutriSystem and Performance Motorsports
gave me the chance of a lifetime. I hope our relationship
will continue to grow."
Theriault's future NASCAR plans are currently undecided.
"I would love to compete in more NASCAR races,"
continued Theriault. "Everyone I met - NASCAR officials,
drivers, team owners - all made me feel welcome. If I find
the right opportunity I will absolutely race again in NASCAR."
Brimming with confidence, Theriault's next stop is Jennerstown
Speedway, one of her favorite tracks.
"Last weekend's race was a great warm up for the Pro
Cup championship rounds," said Theriault. "Jennerstown
is a track I like a lot. It feels really nice heading to a
place where I am comfortable, especially after having a good
showing in my NASCAR debut."
In the Pro Cup Series, Theriault drives the No. 86 Titan Industries
Ford, prepared by HWK Racing. The Travelers Rest, S.C., based
team also fields entries for Toby Porter, Matt Carter and
Randy Hawkins.
"HWK Racing is one of the strongest teams in Pro Cup,"
said Theriault. "Bobby Hawkins believes I can get the
job done and I'm going to prove him right."
