Claire Tippet Scores at a Sizzling Snetterton!

Oxfordshire's Claire Tippet surpassed her own aims at the fifth and sixth rounds of the VW Racing Cup, held over the weekend at Snetterton, in which she races a VW 1.8 Golf GTi Mk1.

Claire went to the Norfolk circuit aiming for the top 12, having already secured three impressive 14th places in the previous rounds in this, her first full season of racing. On Saturday, Claire made a strong start to her weekend's bid, qualifying in 14th place for Race One. This set her firmly in the thick of the action, with the series seeing a 25-car strong grid at the weekend, in what is the country's fastest growing saloon car series.

Race One, held on Sunday morning, saw Claire disappointed with her start but bouncing back with vigour. "I was pretty mad with myself!" says Claire, honestly, "as I lost a number of places at the start. But I got onto pace when I saw a number of cars fall off the circuit. There was oil on the track; I had a few slippery moments and knew the most important thing was me to stay on the tarmac! I kept plugging away and was pleased to finish in 12th place, but Race Two was to prove even better."

Race Two, held in the afternoon in hot and sunny conditions, saw Claire take 12th position on the grid, reflecting her placing in race one. "I had a great battle with Alex [Dziurzynski], who was on my tail before going past me, but I kept my head down and was able to get back past him. I was able to catch David Turner up and hung onto his tail but wasn't able to make a move on the place before the end of the race. And of course David is my boss; so it might have been an unwise move to try any heroics! I finished in 10th, my best position to date, and I'm looking forward to more top tens now."

Claire's next outing will be at Cheshire's Oulton Park circuit on 18 July. "I'm looking forward to Oulton Park," says Claire. "I have never been before so will have to learn quickly. But I've been told it is a circuit which will suit my Golf; so I can't wait for that."
