Kristen Tabor

Type of Racing: Rallying

Race Series: SCCA Club Rally, NorPac Division; Western States Rally Championship

Introduction: Kristen got her start in rally racing by volunteering to work the local club events and navigating for her brother in time-speed-distance events from BC to Central California. Volunteering soon led to competing for Kristen and in 1998, the Tabor Rally Team came together. The entire family competes, often against each other, in the same SCCA Club Rally classes.

Kristen began her co-driving career with her brother Mark in the team's Production-GT Mazda 323 GTX. She would not climb over to the driver's seat until 2000. Kristen's first event as a driver found her driving the team's 1991 Nissan Sentra SE-R with her mother, Janice, as her co-driver. That first event ended in a soft roll off the road and over the edge of a hill, but driving fast was in Kristen's blood. Kristen and Janice found themselves to be the poster girls for the NorPac Geo Metro Spec class. In a three cylinder, fifty-five horsepower Geo, the girls showed that "size matters not", at least as far as the fun factor goes.

Current Season: The current season found Kristen begging for more power than the Geo had to give. After a frustrating event that left the little Geo with a broken shift linkage, stuck in second gear for the last stage and transit, Kristen decided it was time to go back to the Nissan.

The first event back in the car was the NWR Club events, Dryad Quest and Shitepoke. Kristen discovered that her time driving a slow, underpowered car taught her many things about momentum. She put that knowledge to good use in beating her father, who was in an identically prepared car, on two of the early stages of Sunday's divisional. She gave the rest of the field a run for their money, ending in 12th place overall for the day out of twenty-nine entrants.

Racing Goals: Future events for the 2004 season include the Wild West Rally weekend in Shelton, WA in September and the Mt. Hood Club Rally weekend in Hood River, OR in October. Kristen and Janice have plans to romp all over the Production Class competitors with the remainder of the season and shoot for the NorPac Production Class win for 2005.

Personal: Kristen lives in Tigard, OR with an engineer boyfriend and a big dog. She works as a payroll specialist at her father's accounting firm and enjoys cycling and music. She also enjoys organizing, working, and competing in all forms of rally racing: stage rally, rallycross, and road rally.

Special Thanks to: Special thanks go to her father for always giving her the confidence to compete against the boys, not only in her family but in the rally community. Kristen would also like to thank Silverstone Tyres, Tabor Accounting Group, and Tabors' Pacific Foto Supply for all their support. Big thanks go to Mufflerworks and Thor's Lake Auto Service for keeping her cars in tip-top shape for competition.
