Type of Racing: Stock Car

Race Series: NASCAR weekly series

Introduction: Lauri came from a motorcycle - Superbike racing background. In 1992 she put her motorcycle racing tour on hold to have the last of her 3 children. A 10 year span and Lauri, with the support of her children got back into racing.

Instead of a private pilots license, she invested in 2 racecars to run in the NASCAR weekly series at Cajon Speedway. Her team, Silent Thunder Racing was dedicated to incorporating diversity in racing. The driver of her Pony Stock car was the first Deaf Driver. Silent Thunder Racing team was featured on every local television channel as well as CNN, Australian and Canadian news. Her team made world news.

Lauri has since brought in 2 more cars to her team. She is 1 of only 4 regular female drivers at the track of over 150. Even though women are the minority at this track 99% of the fellow drivers give respect.

She is a roll model and public figure in San Diego. "I want other young ladies to know that you can be anything you want in life", says Lauri. Her team of 10 crewmen and 3 drivers make up Silent Thunder Racing. They are the representation for what other teams should be like

Current Season: Cajon Speedways 2004 NASCAR Weekly series season is well underway. The Factory Stock division nightly registers 50+ cars trying for only 22 positions in the main. Lauri runs mid pack in qualifying, but out in front when it comes to connecting with the fans.

Racing Goals: At 39 years old and mother of 3, she doesn't see my career going too far in NASCAR. However, as a personal goal, Lauri wants to form some kind of training for other women that want to experience this type of racing but have no idea of how. "Perhaps a school or classes or whatever, so that others can experience this in life".

A major goal for Lauri is to make the track champion speech at the annual NASCAR banquet. When asked what she would say to everyone, she said the thing she wants to tell people is "I remember who talked to me in the pits the night I decided to venture into NASCAR racing and I also remember who wouldn't give me the time of day. I hope some day; some one comes to me and asks me, how do I start? I would tell them, you start right here and this is what you need to do. Thank you to all those people who helped me along the way"

Personal: Lauri is a mother of 3, works full time, volunteers for Racers Against Drugs at her local chapter and goes to college 3 nights a week while racing on the weekends. She is currently under chemotherapy, but has never missed a race because of it. Lauri claims that by keeping herself busy takes her mind of the illness part. Her teammates know what to take care things when the days are rough. "It's a life goal", Lauri says, "Everyone has life goals and racing is mine"!

Special Thanks to: She says...Thank you to my husband Robin, Teammates Phil, Debi, Joey, Deb, Jeff, Robert, Kim, Kendra, Dean, Lyle , Kendra, Corey, and Andy Papp. Also Aloha to Debi Urioste-Chapman, Dean Wright, Ed Hale, Driscoll Racing, Street Stock Tech Larry, and Cajon Speedway track officials
