Verena Mei

Type of Racing: Other

Race Series: SCCA - Formula Drift
United States Professional Drift Series

Introduction: Verena became interested in racing while being a spokesmodel for Toyo Tires. While traveling throughout the US to races and shows, Verena learned a lot about racing and what it takes to be a racer and wanted her chance behind the wheel.

With a recommendation from her mentor Bobby Unser Jr., Verena trained at the Motion Picture Stunt Driving School in 2002 where she first learned to drift and control a vehicle in extreme situations. From then on, she knew that she wanted to pursue a racing career. She then went to the Frank Hawley Drag Racing School where she earned her NHRA Pro Super Gas License. From there she trained dilegently at the Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving, where she got valuable seat time in drifting Mustangs, and training in Shifter Karts, Corvettes, and Crown Victorias.

In 2004, she bought a Nissan 240sx and built it up to run the Formula-D series, the first Professional US Drift Series, and became one of the first female competitors in the US.

Current Season: For the 2005 season, Verena is the only female committed to running the complete 6-event Formula-D series. She also plans to run a couple Drift Showoff events and D1 Driver Search.

Her Title sponsor is BC Ethic Clothing (www.bcethic.com), the first large non-automotive sponsor to come into the drifting. Her major sponsors include Nissan Motorsports and Star Girl Racing.

Racing Goals: Verena's love for racing doesn't stop at Drifting or Drag Racing, in fact, one of her goals is to become a well-rounded driver, so she always keeps an open mind when it comes to the future of her career. "Who knows, sometime down the road, opportunities that haven't arisen may be available for me in the future. I'm always ready for a new challenge!"

For now, some of Verena's other goals are to win a Drift Series, be a positive role model to young women around the world, and make a mark in the motorsports world.

Personal: Originally from Pearl City, Hawaii, Verena, founder of Star Girl Racing currently resides in Los Angeles, CA. Although her focus is racing now, Verena still models and hosts television shows when she has the time.

Even when she's not racing or making appearances, Verena is always up for an adventure. She loves bodyboarding, surfing, skateboarding, playing tennis and learning new things.

Special Thanks to: Verena would like to thank her family, friends, and everyone who has believed in her and supported her dream. CMA Sports & Entertainment, BC Ethic, Nissan Motorsports, Yokohama, and all of her sponsors. "Without their help, I wouldn't have been able to accomplish so much in such a short period of time."
